Endowed CID School Scholarship Funds

Since its founding in 1914, Central Institute for the Deaf (CID) in St. Louis has received many generous gifts earmarked to help families afford a CID auditory-oral education for their deaf and hearing-impaired children. Typically, these funds have been named in honor of or in memory of special friends and family members — often people who have demonstrated a deep commitment to CID and to the education of deaf children. They are used to help families who are unable to pay the full tuition as well as to support the substantial costs of auditory-oral deaf education not covered by CID tuition.

A contribution of $10,000 or more is required to start a named endowed CID school scholarship fund. Of course, we gratefully accept gifts in any amount for programs, for annual scholarship support or to the following existing named endowed CID school scholarship and educational program funds:

Through a March 2007 gift by an anonymous donor, CID has also established the S. Richard Silverman Professional Development Fund to support the growth and leadership capabilities of our teachers and to strengthen the relationship between CID and Washington University. The fund is named to honor the spirit and lifetime commitment of CID's second director (1947-1972), the late S. Richard Silverman, PhD. Dr. Silverman was a giant in the field and an influential advocate of constructive collaboration among audiologists, scientists and teachers of the deaf to provide the best opportunities for deaf children and their families.

To contribute to one of these funds or to start your own named fund, please contact development director, Christy Maxfield: 314.977.0225 cmaxfield@cid.edu

The CID school tuition rate is approximately half of what it actually costs to provide a CID education.

All CID families benefit from the continued generosity of our many friends in the St. Louis community and around the world.

Thank you for your support!
