Audience: Teachers of the deaf, special education classroom teachers, itinerants, pediatric speech-language pathologists
Do you have a student who uses listening devices effectively, but continues to lag behind in language, spelling, speech, writing and/or math skills? Does the student experience difficulty recalling vocabulary and following directions? Although this might look like a behavior problem or learning disability, it could be a result of an auditory memory deficit.
The good news is that research has proven auditory memory strategies can be taught and learned. This online course, Strategies for Improving Auditory Memory, provides practical applications for improving a student’s fundamental auditory memory skills. It covers strategies for improvement, structured activities, everyday practice and data collection to demonstrate progress and choose goals.
More good news: Practical auditory memory instruction also has been shown to benefit students who don’t have hearing loss. Many of the recommended activities can be accomplished in small groups of students with varying hearing ability.
Participants will be able to:
- Identify the signs and effects of poor auditory memory
- Teach strategies to help students improve auditory memory
- Implement activities to help students improve auditory memory
- Identify activities for auditory memory practice throughout the day
- Collect and analyze data on student outcomes for auditory memory development
