Individualized Support
CID speech-language pathologists (SLPs) provide individualized therapy as needed to address the needs of students of all ages. They administer a comprehensive annual evaluation to every child and share the results with the child’s team. They also conduct regular onsite evaluations to establish goals and monitor progress. Formal assessments include tests of receptive and expressive vocabulary, receptive and expressive language and articulation. As part of each student’s evaluation, they also record and analyze informal spontaneous language samples. In addition, CID SLPs focus on some characteristic difficulties for children who are deaf and hard of hearing, such as difficulties with suprasegmental aspects of speech and pragmatic language.
As part of her master’s-level education, each CID SLP received specialized training in the listening, speech and language development of children who are deaf and hard of hearing. As important members of each student’s team of parents, teachers, audiologists and other professionals, our SLPs contribute knowledge of typical speech and language development as well as the effects of hearing loss on communicative development and related areas such as voice, resonance, fluency and articulation/phonology.
